1. The best time to visit

The best time to visit Meteora is in late from March to May or from September to November. So Spring or Autumn. This is time best because it is less crowded. In Summer, you can manage by visiting early.

2. How to get there?

Drive or Rent a car or use public transport. Driving from Greece is easy. The roads are pretty clear and good. You can also hire a car with the driver and enjoy the views on your journey. Public transport like every other city is available at fixed timing.

3. Getting around Meteora

Once you are in the region, there are plenty of day trips which can be organized with the help of operators.  You can also drive around in a private car, or rent a scooter from Kalampaka. Staying in Meteora and exploring the place is highly recommended. Two days can easily be spent here.

4. Stay

There are plenty of options for accommodation, from 5- star luxury hotels to lodges and guesthouses. Try to take stay near the monasteries area, so everything around you is at a walkable distance.

5. Exploring Monasteries

The name of the 6 monasteries is St. Nikolaos Anapafsas, Great Meteoron, Roussanou, Holy Trinity, Varlaam and St. Stephen’s. It is said that there were 24 in total, but now only 6 standing. Great Meteoron and Varlaam are the largest and most popular monasteries. They are always loaded with a lot of people.

Dividing your time is very much necessary as some places are closed on some days. Even before visiting the whole place you can do your homework and visit when there is less crowd and they are not closed.

As the sun is harsh, I would suggest taking a mixture of walking, hiking, and driving. When you drive from point-to-point, there are a lot of lookout places where you can stop and take pictures.

6. Visiting the top of Meteora

Psaropetra sunset viewpoint in Meteora is the best place to enjoy the sunset and relax after a hectic sunny day. If the sky is clear, you can expect to enjoy the best sunset of your life.

7. Important tips

Take sunscreen lotion, good sunglasses, a hat, bottle of water, a filling snack and a good camera with you.

The monasteries have strict dress codes so women will need to wear a long skirt or a long dress.  No trousers or shorts are allowed. Men should wear full pants. We have to Remember that the monasteries are places of worship, so be respectful and conduct properly.
