There is no "right" or no “wrong” time to travel to Malaysia. Same as Singapore, visitors to Malaysia should expect some rain whenever you visit. 

The best time to visit is from November to March as there will be the least amount of rainfall in the best places to visit in Malaysia. The best time to travel the east coast of the peninsula is from April or May to October. Most of the time you can enjoy calm waters and clear blue skies.

Places to avoid for bad weather in Malaysia

There are certain areas that are particularly wet at times and can be avoided then. The eastern coast of Malaysia is best if avoided during the northeast monsoon which is from November to March. 

The northern part of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia especially Penang and Langkawi can get good rain in September and October. In Penang, more rain can turn out to be a good thing as travelers cherish food in heavy rains. In Langkawi, the visibility is affected, so as diving. Travelers should avoid Sabah and Sarawak in January. As it becomes extreme downpour and weather becomes difficult many times.

November and December are crowded as other countries have vacation for the festivals like Diwali and Christmas. So January to May any month you can plan your luxurious vacation to Malaysia.

Sightseeing: November to March is best for sightseeing. This is the time when you’re most likely to catch the least amount of rain. You can visit the Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Caves and many other places to visit in Malaysia.

Beaches:  You can enjoy the beach any time of the year, but there will be rain showers daily. The best time to visit the beaches on the east coast is from March to September. For the west coast, visit from November to August as the heaviest showers are from September to October.
 
Snorkeling and diving:  The majority of the best dive and snorkeling places in Malaysia are located on the eastern peninsula. So the best time of year to visit between April and September. Some of the best islands to visit are Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai, Lankayan, Layang-Layang, Mataking, Pom, and Sibuan. Especially for diving and snorkeling on the west coast, you should plan a visit between November and August.
 
Honeymoon:  Honeymoons can be best enjoyed at resorts on the east coast of Malaysia. March to mid-May and September will be the best weather and less crowds with minimal rain.
