Wellington is New Zealand’s bustling, lively and a compact city to spend 48 hours. Wellington is the epitome of a great cultural and has plenty of things to offer. The city can easily be navigated. Everything is localized here and also accessible easily. All activities, beaches, and places of interest can be reached out by public transport. New Zealand has very efficient public transport. I would like to share my experience of a great weekend in the New Zealand capital, Wellington.

The 1st Day :

If your stomach is happy, no matter what life throws at you, it turns out to be a great experience. After your hectic flight, you can take some time to freshen up and treat yourself with a wonderful breakfast. Wellington has the nation’s most fantastic options of breakfast restaurants. I am not promoting any specific one here, so just explore and spend your morning with your favorite delicacies.

Visit Botanic Gardens

Take the cable car from Lambton Quay up to the Botanic Gardens. This will be a smart choice as you will do things at the same time, 1st - you will enjoy an epic view of the city. 2nd - along with that you will reach the Botanic Gardens. I took this option as I had a hectic flight schedule and only 48 hours in Wellington to explore. It’s a lovely way to spend some time and getting rest.

Visit the Waterfront

The Wellington waterfront is an amazing place to spend the latter half of the day. There are sculptures, hidden excerpts of poetry and many other attractive things. You can experience zorbing, kayaking, canoeing and many more. If you are a Seafood lover, you will find a lot of good restaurants serving the same.

Spend some time at Te Papa Museum

Walk through this excellent museum, I am certain that you will have the best time of city spending 3-4 hours. Te Papa Tongarewa really is a world-class museum and has the most famous resident is the Colossal Squid. It is 4.2-meter squid that was brought out of the coast of New Zealand.

Enjoy Dinner at some good restaurant and rest for what is coming the other day.

The 2nd Day

The Mount Victoria

Visit Mount Victoria as the first thing to do in the morning. Sorry, I have not mentioned the breakfast but keep that on the list too. At the Mount Victoria lookout, you can get a panoramic view of Wellington, the harbor and its surrounding bays.

Scorching Bay

Visit one of Wellington’s best beaches. This place is an ideal place to drench some rays while you watch an amazing view of the still blue shore. The crystal clear water, the white sand will give you a refreshing experience.

The Weta Cave

It would be a crime to visit this city without visiting The Weta Cave. The most cinematic masterpiece - the Lord of the Rings, can be experienced here. You can explore all about the magic Peter Jackson and his team of special and visual effects wizards did for some popular movies like The Hobbit, Avatar, Ghost in the Shell.

Enjoy your last day with some great local cuisine.
